I haven’t done film reviews in a long time, and to be honest, I probably won’t be doing this for a while again. Now, I normally don’t like horror films since “リング” (“Ring”). Not because it’s such a classic that all else can’t compare, but because at some point in my life, I couldn’t suspend [...]
I was reading this post on China’s soft power: http://www.thechinabeat.org/?p=4001 In it, the author draws from different sources to explain his point, of how China is shooting itself in the foot when it comes to influencing other nations. The following paragraph uses media and entertainment as an example: Yee-Kwang Heng (2010) uses this point to [...]
Overall, I highly recommend this movie.
A movie that takes place in the japanese-occupied portion of the ROC’s capital, Nanjing (China’s WWII version of Vichy). Confusing ain’t it? At the time, Wang, Jing-Wei collaborated with the Japanese, while keeping the banner of being the official government of the Republic of China. While Chiang, Kai-Shek lead the resistance (at least in title) [...]
A very good biographical documentary by Deanna Borshay, about how she was replaced with another child at an orphanage during the Korean War, given a different name, and adopted to America. All this despite the fact that her parents were still alive. This movie was her search to find out who the real Cha, Jung-Hee [...]
This movie may have been a Korean-American co-production, but aside from the setting taking place along the New York-New Jersey border, and the supporting actors and actresses being American, it is very much a Korean movie with a very Korean feel. In fact, the scene where 송혜교(Song, Hye-Gyo) is making Korean food convinced me and [...]
Bottomline: I hate this film. 。。
What?! What war?! The war on crappy education. That’s right! Day 2. I dropped my accounting class today. So it was class after class of cooking-related stuff, followed by the battle to stay awake in the 70s film appreciation class. Yes, some of you think I deserve a medal for even volunteering into getting into [...]
